Photography – A new craze
I was at Dilli Haat on one of those wintery evenings. We were strolling along the stalls, jostling with the crowds. There was quite some crowd. There were many people with a camera. Now Dilli Haat is a touristy place, even for local Delhiites so I was not too surprised at the cameras in people’s hands. But after walking a little more, I noticed that most people had DSLR cameras. And many had zoom lenses to their cameras. And not everyone was a tourist there. There were people just hanging around for photo opportunities. Now this was no photo walk, it was not a group of people walking together clicking. There were scattered people, many of them, with their big DSLRs around their necks clicking pictures galore. It seems people have been bitten by the photography bug big time.
*Disclaimer: I was carrying my DSLR around too at that time

Yeah, and how many people can actually use the darn thing properly? Do they take it out of automatic mode? Do they know anything about their lens compared to the alternatives out there? Does their result look better than using a point in shoot, or do they just look better?
Not trying to be mean or arrogant, it’s just funny how many people think they are a photographer by buying a DSLR. Composition? Exposure? This is ART people! lol. Breathe….
Ah, the eternal debate… a good camera doesn’t make one a good photographer, should people who can’t shoot even carry the fancy cameras… I remember seeing tweets on this debate some time back. I would say to each his/her own. If one can own a DSLR camera, why not. From the looks of it, it seems many people can indeed own a DSLR
Hi, first time in your blog!
This has become a trend of carrying huge lens and DSLR even in local places. I was at Chennai for vacation, and the marina beach (which used to be crowded, with just people), had unusual number of people carrying camera and their gears! That includes me too! Looks like a lot of people had been bitten by the photo bug!
Thanks for dropping by Vaish (or Ranu or Anuradha Rajaraman??). You’re doing a great job on your blog by helping people learn more about photography
