Adventurous in the City

October 5, 2008

So there is hue and cry over Shiela Dixit’s comments on the murder of journalist Soumya Viswanathan:

All by herself till 3 am at night in a city where people believe…you know…you should not be so adventurous.

Each time I come home late alone, my family is worried and asks me not to be adventurous. And I am a reasonably well-built man. So why does everything have to have a feminist angle? Why do women feel so victimized that even a simple remark is taken as a remark against the whole womanhood? Let’s face it… driving alone in the City of Delhi at 3am is bloody adventurous, be it a man or a woman.

“…you should not be so adventurous.” Shiela Dixit’s said this, WTF, shouldn’t she be making it safer hence less adventurous?

Exactly my point. We should be piling on to Shiela Dixit for making the city safe rather than berating the point of ‘how she could make such a seemingly anti-woman statement’.
