Shades of Grey – 6: Missing Her

April 15, 2010

It had been over three months since Sanjay had seen Shruti. Initial flurry of emails had died and phone calls had become less frequent. Over the three months, Shruti had kept him posted about her. Slowly both got busy with their respective lives.

The radio played a song that they both liked. Sanjay’s lips curled in a smile as he remembered listening to that song with Shruti. He pulled out the phone from his pocket and dialled Shruti’s number. Shruti was thrilled to hear his voice. She was so glad he called as there was so much to tell. Shruti had met Jai at a party and they had hit it off. Sanjay could feel the excitement in her voice. He felt happy for her. He knew Shruti did not need his approval but he joined her in her excitement. She just couldn’t stop gushing over her new relationship. She felt she was acting like a teenager.

He looked out of the window at the setting sun as he put the phone down. He knew there was no commitment between them and he had no business to feel jealous. He was happy for her and yet there was sadness in his heart. He knew this would happen sooner or later. But he felt sad because all he wanted to tell her was that he missed her. And yet he didn’t…

Note: The ‘chapters’ of Shades of Grey are getting all mixed up. I am now writing different episodes that are out of sequence. Hopefully they will all come together at some point of time after I put them in a sequence. So stopping to title these episodes as Chapters.

hmmm… while it started out as a long drawn story in my mind, I guess the episodes are turning out to be stand along short stories.
